Council structure and decision-making

Wyong Shire Council is run by 10 democratically elected councillors who comprise the governing body of the council. The role of the governing body is to direct and control the affairs of Council in accordance with the Local Government Act (1993). 

Councillors are elected every four years and include councillors elected to the roles of Mayor and Deputy Mayor.

The Council appoints a General Manager to carry out it's decisions on a day-to-day basis.

Organisation structure

Council's organisation structure is divided into five departments overseen by an Executive Team that is led by the General Manager.

Other key governance positions include:

Chief Information Officer - this position focuses on governance through the alignment  of technology and business processes to the needs of the organisation and community.

Chief Financial Officer - this position provides leadership in financial management.

Legal and Risk Unit - including Legal Counsel, Internal Ombudsman, Internal Audit and the Public Officer

Council employees

All council employees have obligations under the Local Government Act 1993 and other legislation, with specific responsiblities included in positions descriptions.

Our staff are guided in their day to day work by a framework of policies, procedures aimed at achieving professional and ethical behaviour at all times including the Code of Conduct which clarifies the distinct and separate roles of elected members and employees.

Wyong Shire Council employees are expected to behave in a way which conforms to the highest standards of integrity, responsibility and fair dealing in the workplace, the Council Chamber, and in relations with the community and each other.

Council employees work under and in accordance with the Local Government State Award 2010.
