Role of the Mayor
The role of the Mayor, as set out by the Local Government Act 1993, Section 226, is:
• to exercise, in cases of necessity, the policy-making functions of the governing body of the council between meetings of the council
• to exercise such other functions of the council as the council determines
• to preside at meetings of the council
• to carry out the civic and ceremonial functions of the mayoral office.
The current Mayor is Councillor Bob Graham.
Deputy Mayor
The role of Deputy mayor is a supporting role for the Mayor. The Deputy mayor may exercise any function of the Mayor at the request of the Mayor of if the Mayor is absent or the position is vacant.
In Wyong Shire, the positions of Mayor and Deputy Mayor are elected each year in September by a vote from among the 10 councillors. If the vote is tied, the decision is made by a draw from a hat.
The current Deputy Mayor is Councillor Sue Wynn.
