External controls
As a local government body, our organisation is subject to compliance with a broad range of Commonwealth Government and NSW Government legislation.
The most significant Acts are the NSW Local Government Act 1993 which includes the Council’s Charter; the Environmental Planning & Assessment Act 1979, and the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009.
External Audit
Independent, external audits are required annually to examine our financial systems and records and verify the accuracy and integrity of the information.
Our financial reports must be audited in accordance with national accounting standards and regulations and this serves as a useful 'check' to ensure the community's funds are being appropriately managed and accounted for.
The contract to conduct the external audit program for Wyong Shire Council runs for six year and is currently undertaken by PriceWaterhouseCoopers.
