Alison Road improved in time for new school year

23 Jan 2012

Wyong Shire Council is nearing completion of an upgrade to a 530 metre section of Alison Road, Wyong.

These works will lead to improved driver safety and amenity as well as a reduction in ongoing maintenance costs.

The upgrade will cost approximately $600,000 and involves raising and widening the road pavement as well as a number of roadside drainage improvements.

The reconstruction of the road has used in-situ stabilisation technology, which recycles the majority of the existing road pavement.

“This technique means faster construction times, reduced waste, and a reduced need to order new road materials,” said Andrew Pearce, Council’s Roads and Stormwater Manager.

“This leads to considerable cost savings for Council as well as significant environmental benefits.”

The process of in-situ stabilisation involves milling the existing pavement then blending it with lime and some new road base gravel before it’s re-compacted onto the road and a new 50mm asphalt seal is put on top.

Most of the improvements along Alison Road have been done by night work to minimise disruption to motorists and the community.

The works were programmed as part of Councils 2011/2012 capital works program, which can be viewed within the Wyong Shire Council Strategic Plan 2011 - 2015.

Works started on the 13 January 2012 and are expected to be finalised in time for the new school year.
