Council praises Mingara for fundraising efforts
25 Jan 2012
Wyong Shire Council has congratulated Mingara on their fantastic efforts in raising $10,000 for the flood affected region of Lockyer Valley.
The impact of the January 2011 Queensland floods had a devastating affect on the 37,000 people of the community in the Lockyer Valley, with more than 120 homes destroyed and many businesses lost.
In response to the incredible damage, Mingara partnered with the Lockyer Valley Regional Council to help rebuild the children’s playground that will be constructed under the Lockyer Valley Recovery Plan.
Wyong Mayor Bob Graham has praised the generosity of Mingara and its members to help those in need.
“This is a tremendous effort that will have a real impact on the redevelopment of the Lockyer Valley region’s community facilities,” Mayor Graham said.
“It was only 12 months ago that we saw the destruction and despair caused by the floods and we need to remember that these communities still need our support.”
Mingara asked members to donate loose change towards the Lockyer Valley Playground Project, August 12-21, 2011.
Daniel Pinkstone, Mingara’s General Manager, understands the value of community facilities and how they affect the strength and unity of an area.
“Our vision is to make a significant contribution to the quality of community life, so we jumped at the opportunity to provide assistance to another community in need,” Mr Pinkstone said.
“Meeting places such as playgrounds are vital in ensuring residents can connect with each other and spend quality time with their families.
“Our staff and members are honoured to have been able to provide some financial assistance to help rebuild the Lockyer Valley region.”
Mingara also donated a further $10,000 to the Clubs NSW Queensland Flood Appeal from their annual Community Development Support Expenditure (CDSE) funding program.
Last year, Wyong Shire Council staff alone raised a total of $12,200 for victims of the Queensland floods through donations, a sausage sizzle, cake stall, raffle, family concert and an auction.
Council matched the staff donations, and a $25,000 cheque was sent to the Queensland flood appeal.
Donations can still be made to the Premier’s Disaster Relief Appeal until 31 March 2012.
