Art on display at the Lakeside
11 Jan 2012
To help the development of local artists and designers, Council recently partnered with Lakeside Shopping Centre in turning an empty shopfront into a gallery and art studio.
Community and Cultural Development Manager, Julie Vaughan, believes this is an important step forward for the growth of the arts and cultural community on the Central Coast.
“Through extensive community consultation, we found that there were a lot of artists struggling to establish themselves.
“The Lakeside Art program gives artists an opportunity to find their place in the market by building a local audience while creating partnerships with other artists and developing their own business and management skills.
“It also helps to liven up our town centres,” she said.
The artists Kathleen Watson, Amanda Anderson, Nadia Zarb, and Catherine Stanley, are displaying and selling original works, with part of the revenue going back into the program for further arts and cultural development.
They will also offer a range of low cost workshops throughout the year to help engage and mentor budding artists.
The artists were selected from an extensive expression of interest process and together show a diverse mix of creativity of hat design, paintings, jewellery and sculptures.
The Lakeside Art exhibition is located at 3/96 The Entrance Road, The Entrance and is open every Thursday to Sunday, from 10am to 4pm each week. Entry is free.
