Improvements to Tigers' home
14 Feb 2012
Work is being carried out to improve the surface of one of the most heavily used ovals in Wyong Shire.
EDSAAC South Oval, home of The Entrance Tigers Rugby League Club, will be out of action until May to allow work to be carried out.
The work is a partnership between Council and The Entrance Leagues Club.
Despite losing their home ground advantage for the first couple of months of the season, Leagues Club CEO, Mark Chaffey, couldn’t be happier.
“At the end of the day, the work being undertaken will definitely result in a huge improvement to the surface,” Mr Chaffey said. “The work is for the benefit of all the groups that use this oval including rugby league, cricket and Oztag.
“We are definitely happy the work is being done and we know the oval will return in great shape.”
The Entrance has teams in the Sydney based Bundy Cup competition and also the local league.
Council’s Open Space Operations Manager Keith Ollier said the drainage work should allow for the field to be ready for play and training a lot quicker following rain.
“The subsoil drainage should improve the dispersal of water from the surface of the field during wet weather and enable the soil profile to dry out faster after periods of rain,” Mr Ollier said.
“This should reduce the impact of play on the surface and the field condition should be playable for training and play a lot sooner during and following rain events than it is now.”
Work began late last week and is expected to take six weeks for the installation of drainage and a further six weeks to allow for turf recovery and rehabilitation of the playing surface.
Regular users have been relocated to other Council sports fields and EDSACC South oval will be closed to the public until the drainage work and field rehabilitation is completed.
It is expected the playing fields will reopen for use in mid May.
