New facilities for Care & Education Centres
16 Jan 2012
An amphitheatre, hand crafted artwork and a new sandpit are just some of the new features to be included in a $60,000 upgrade of Wyong Shire Council’s Treelands Care and Education Centre.
The upgrade will be undertaken in three stages over the next three years and is designed to improve the safety, education facilities and fun factor of the Wyong child care centre.
The first stage began over the Christmas holiday period, while the centre was closed and is due to be completed by the end of February, weather permitting. Works include regrading the lower yard, installing new synthetic turf, building a retaining wall and wooden steps, painting the centre inside and out and placing softfall in play areas.
The next two stages include designing and constructing a new sandpit and amphitheatre and installing artwork features, shade sails, wooden decking, turf, seating, gardens, fences, pathways and natural features.
Council’s Manager of Lifelong Learning, Adam Holland, said that several of the centres are being upgraded to ensure they stay at a high standard and continue to meet legislative requirements for safety and development.
“We pride ourselves on providing high quality child care and ensuring that we not only meet but exceed national standards,” he said.
“We are creating new outdoor learning spaces for children and beautiful gardens to play in, which will open up a world of possibilities.”
Council also recently completed a $25,000 upgrade of the Karinya Care and Education Centre in Toukley. The works included a new sandpit, cubby house, softfall in play areas, resurfacing and gardens.
