Tuggerah Lakes entrance: the explanationGraph showing tide and lake heights at The Entrance channel June 15, 2011

The illustration at right shows the height of both the ocean and Tuggerah Lakes at The Entrance channel on Wednesday, 15 June 2011, during widespread, heavy rain.

When the ocean level is above the red line, sea water will run into the lakes - and when the level is below the line, then water will run out of the lakes.

If the channel was opened more, then additional sea water would run in - making the lake higher.

This illustration is from the Willyweather site, which kindly provides tidal and other information to Wyong Shire Council's website via a link on our homepage.
