Vulnerability Maps for Sea Level
Rise
Notes and limitations
1. These maps have been
produced to provide an initial indication of the
areas in Wyong Shire that may be potentially impacted
by Climate Change induced increases in sea level
around Tuggerah Lake and Lake Macquarie.
The sea level rise figures adopted
as a basis for the mapping are taken from the NSW
Government’s Sea Level Rise Policy Statement
adopted October 2009.
2. These maps contain;
* the current estimated 1% AEP
flood affected area (100-year ARI flood level estimated
at RL2.20) based on existing data and flood studies
. These studies only include expected ocean behaviour
and contributing flows from the Lake sub-catchments.
* the anticipated additional area
that will be affected by flood up to the year 2050
as a result of increases in sea level.
* the anticipated additional area
that will be affected by flood between 2050 up to
the year 2110 as a result of increases in sea level.
3. The current information presented
on these vulnerability maps may under-estimate the
extent of the flood affected area because the flood
affected areas from the Lake's creeks and rivers
have not been included and could contribute to higher
flood levels than those presented in these maps.
4. The interim information presented
will be updated on a regular basis when various flood
studies and floodplain risk management plans for
the Lakes and their waterways are updated. These
studies will incorporate both the anticipated sea
level rise based on the NSW Government’s Sea
Level Rise Policy Statement and the modelled flood
affected areas taking into account the transition
between river and creek flows and the Lakes.
5. These maps is based on
level data extracted from aerial photography and
it is anticipated that mapped boundaries will have
some tolerance. It is recommended that illustrated
vulnerable properties on these maps should be ground
truthed on a lot by lot basis to confirm the extent
or validity of the presented vulnerability implications
for these subject properties.
