Guidelines for
Bed and Breakfast Establishments
Development Control Plan No. 11
1.0 Introduction
Bed and Breakfast Establishments provide an alternative
form of tourist accommodation within the Wyong Shire
Council area. They offer a unique form of short-term
accommodation giving visitors the opportunity to enjoy
homestyle hospitality and the many attractions of the
Shire and surrounding environment.
This Development Control Plan aims to provide assistance
to people interested in establishing and operating Bed
and Breakfast Establishments and to ensure that the
standard of accommodation is attractive to visitors
and enhances the reputation of Wyong Shire as a tourist
destination.
This Plan also seeks to maintain the amenity and character
of the areas where Bed and Breakfast Establishments
are permitted. Council recognises the importance of
ensuring that people visiting the region have range
of accommodation options, while preserving the environment
and residential amenity for local residents. It is recognised
that it is the existing amenity and character which
attracts both residents and visitors to the Wyong area.
Therefore, preservation and enhancement of the existing
environment is of paramount importance.
1.1 Definition of Bed and Breakfast Establishment
Bed and Breakfast Establishment means: "a single
dwelling house containing a maximum of six (6) bedrooms,
used by its permanent residents (owner/long term tenants)
for the provision of short term or temporary paid accommodation
for visitors (which may or may not include the provision
of meals), but which does not include a building or
place elsewhere specifically defined by Wyong
Local Environmental Plan 1991."
