The history of flooding
Wyong Shire has been hit by many big floods.
In the past century, for example, there was significant flooding in 1949, 1964, 1974, 1990, 1992, 2004 and 2007.
The 2007 flood is often called the 'Pasha Bulker storm', after the name of the bulk carrier that was driven ashore on Nobby's Beach, Newcastle, at the height of the downpour and gale force winds.
In Wyong Shire, damage from the 2007 flood included;
- about 1,000 homes flooded
- about 10,000 properties flooded
- 500 people rescued
- four to five days of high flood water in Tuggerah Lakes.
