Bookworm Reading Program
Shire’s
Bookworms
More than 110 youngsters read through about 3,000 books
this summer as part of a Wyong Shire Library and Information
Service’s successful Bookworm Reading Program.
The program ran at all Council libraries between mid-December
and mid-January and aimed to encourage a love of reading
among youngsters.
The program was open to young library members aged
five to 16 with participants earning points for each
book they read. For each book they read on a library
recommended reading list, they received two points,
and for every other book they read they received one
point.
After
six points, they could have a lucky dip with some small
incentive prizes, and their name would go into the major
prize draw. The more they read, the more chance they
had of winning a major prize.
Prize packs were awarded in four age-group categories
and they went to: Alan Lee, 5-7 years; Bethany Harvey,
8-10 years; Rachel Condon, 11-13 years; and Tim Farrugia,
14-16 years. The packs included speciality books, game
books, movie passes, pens, pencils, craft and other
items.
