Creating a bibliography for your assignment

You have finished your research and written your assignment and it is almost ready to be handed in. To ensure that the project is complete, you just need to create a bibliography of the resources that you have used.

Here are some guidelines for different formats that you may have used, the details are written in order of presentation.

Books
The proper order is – Author’s last name, first name. Title of book. Place of publication, Publisher’s name, year of publication or copyright. Page numbers.

Example: Manning, David. Exotic pet handbook. London, HarperCollins, 1998. pp 88 – 91, 102.

Encyclopedias
The proper order is – “Topic”, name of Encyclopedia. Volume number, Page numbers, Copyright date.

Example: “Federation”, Australian Encyclopedia. Volume 4, pp 20 – 22, 1998.

Magazines
The proper order is – Author’s last name, first name. Title of article. Name of magazine. Place of publication, Publisher’s name, Date of publication, page numbers.

Example: Blair, Tony. Running into trouble. Time Australia, Melbourne, Time, 20th October 1997, pp 53.

Interview
The proper order is – Interviewee’s last name, first name, person’s title if included. “Personal interview”. Date of interview.

Example: Freeman, Cathy. “Personal interview”. January 2001.

CD-Roms
The proper order is – “Topic”, CD-Rom’s name, Copyright date.

Example: “Federation”, Great Women of the 20th Century, 1998.

Internet
The proper order is – Author. Title of item. [Online] Available web address, Date of document or download.

Example: DiStefano, Vince. Guidelines for better writing. [Online]. Available at http://www.usa.et/~vinced/home/better-writing.html, January 9, 2000.
