Australian Library Week 2003
'Power Your Mind' was the theme of
Australian Library Week 2003. The week was celebrated
in Wyong Shire libraries from 12 - 18 May.
The aim of the week was to reinforce the public perception
of libraries as a key force in building an 'information
literate' society.
Wyong Shire Council's library services used the period
to promote the astonishing range of information sources
that they offer. For example, some residents may not
be aware that there are many free online databases available
at all libraries in the Shire. These databases include:
Health and Wellness
This is an online collection of magazines, journals,
newspapers, directories and other information on all
areas of health. Information available on this database
covers fitness, pregnancy, medicines, nutrition, diseases,
public health, occupational health and safety, alcohol
and drug abuse, prescription drugs, herbal remedies
and alternative or complementary treatments.
Australian Public Affairs
This is an online collection of text articles
and abstracts dealing with Australian social issues
aimed at high school and tertiary level.
MacquarieNet
This provides access to a database of encyclopaedias,
articles, dictionaries, images, atlases, links and news
items, designed primarily for schools.
Tuggerah and Lake Haven libraries also offer the Australia/New
Zealand Reference Centre, an online database of magazines,
newspapers, newswires, reference books and company information.
This database provides local perceptives on current
events, business, sports and many other subjects.
Tuggerah, Lake Haven and The Entrance libraries also
have Worldbookonline available for visitors.

Shire libraries.
