Karinya Pre-School and Children’s Centre

Ph: (02) 4397 1268

The Karinya centre is easily accessible off Main Road and located next to the Toukley Aquatic Centre.

Karinya takes its name from an Aboriginal word meaning “peaceful and happy home”. This is a philosophy which is strongly reflected in the operation of the centre.

Outdoor play areas are attractive and spacious, with specific areas for younger children. They feature plenty of shade and native trees, as well as some fun new play equipment.

The centre offers a transition to school program for older children which has been developed in partnership with Toukley Public School to ensure it is relevant and up to date.

Other play and learning activities help to develop children’s fine motor and gross motor skills as well as their cognitive learning skills.

These include art and craft, language, music, drama, dramatic play, construction, science and cooking. All children also have access to computers.

To broaden the children’s experiences further, Karinya often invites specialist educators to the centre, including a visiting reptile display and a kinde farm with many different farm animals to touch and see.

Karinya’s long serving and dedicated staff are highly trained early childhood professionals. Staff maintain their skills and knowledge by attending regular in-service training and workshops.

Regular parent information nights are held throughout the year, as are formal parent-teacher interviews to help parents and staff understand the needs and progress of each individual child.

The children’s progress is also documented in a portfolio and sent home for parents’ interest at the end of the year.
