School road safety

Wyong Shire Council conducts a 'Parking Restrictions around Schools' project to help ensure the safety of both pedestrians and motorists in  busy school zones.

This aims to educate parents and carers about the importance of the parking restrictions and road safety around schools. The projectt includes the production and distribution of educational material for parents/carers through schools and general community education.

Key signs used around schools to keep all children and pedestrians safe include:

No Parking Sign for Schools

NO PARKING -- these  allow for parents to drop off or pick up during the times shown on the sign.  The maximum stop time is two minutes, the driver must remain in or within three metres of the vehicle, which cannot be left unattended.

No Stopping Sign for Schools

NO STOPPING - stopping is not permitted at any time.

Bus Zone Road Sign for Schools

BUS ZONE - stopping or parking is not permitted during the times shown on the sign.

Council Rangers may also carry out a ‘blitz’ for school zone parking offences, particularly at primary schools.
