Line marking

Council looks after line marking on local roads and Council owned car parks, while the NSW Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) carry out line marking on RMS roads.

Line marking is a regulatory traffic device, so requires the approval of the Traffic Committee. If you would like to request new line marking, please write to the Wyong Shire Traffic Committee C/- Wyong Shire Council, PO Box 20, WYONG NSW 2259.

Sweeping

Some streets and gutters in commercial and industrial areas are swept at night. Requests for non-regular sweeping of some roads is carried out during the day for the removal of large amounts of loose road material and large amounts of litter - not for the removal of leaves.

Bus Stops and shelters

Requests for new shelters at existing bus stops need to be made in writing. The need and priority will be assessed using criteria such as how close it is to other shelters, the number and type of users, an agreement from the bus company, feedback from affected residents, and the availability of funding. If agreed to, the work will be programmed based on priority and funds. 

Requests for maintenance on bus stops, including structural damage and graffiti, can be made through Councils Customer Contact section or by lodging an online customer requests.

Street lights

Energy Australia owns and maintains the street lighting network in Wyong Shire and charges Council at full cost for the provision of these assets.

Council’s current policy is to provide new street lights in accordance with the current Australian Standard (AS/NZS 1158). Energy Australia assists Council with requests for improvements to and new street lighting. Council makes the final decision for requested works.

Council does not provide security lighting of private properties, walkways or public areas.

Requests for maintenance to, or advice about damaged street lighting should be directed to Energy Australia on 1800 044 808.

Council is responsible for “boutique” lighting within the Town Centres of Wyong and The Entrance. 

Foothpaths

Council allocates an annual budget for the construction of new concrete footpaths.

Requests for concrete footpaths need to be put in writing and will be assessed by the Roads and Stormwater, Assets and Planning section. If agreed, the footpath work will be included in a Council’s future Works Programme.

In accordance with Clause 217 of the Roads Act 1993, Council requires property owners to contribute half the current construction costs (item 21.04 of Council's Annual Plan) for the full width of the property frontage. Corner blocks are subject to alternative contribution rates.

Detailed specifications for concrete footpaths are provided in Chapter 10 of Council’s Development Control Plan 67.

Council does not provide soil for improving footpath areas or deliver soil to private properties. Damaged or uneven nature strip areas that represent a risk to pedestrians are repaired. If the damage was caused by the resident’s vehicles or activities, then Council will recover the costs.

Council does not allow residents to build garden beds or plant trees on the nature strip.
