Council
to stabilise seawall at The Entrance
A big chunk of seawall is being
strengthened at a popular Central Coast holiday resort.
Wyong Shire Council will start work next week to stabilise
more than 100 metres of the seawall at The Entrance
between Picnic Point and the bridge.
Council has engaged a specialist contractor to complete
the works, which are expected to start next Monday,
October 26.
“Voids have formed beneath the footpath slab
along the seawall as a result of erosion,” Council’s
Acting Operations Manager of Open Space and Recreation
Lisa Sheppard said.
“Council staff have conducted extensive investigations
to determine an appropriate repair method to ensure
the structural integrity of the seawall is maintained.”
The work to stabilise the seawall will be carried
out between 7am and 5pm and take about a week to complete.
During this time, Council will take steps to ensure
locals and visitors to the area are not greatly affected
by the works.
“Nearby residents and businesses will be notified
of the works in writing and they may experience a small
amount of inconvenience due to limited pedestrian access,
reduced parking availability and the potential generation
of dust and noise from the machinery,” Ms Sheppard
said.
“The work site will also be cordoned off to
prevent unauthorised access and signage will be in
place to safely redirect pedestrians and cyclists.
“There may also be a temporary reduction in
parking along this section of The Entrance Road whilst
the work is in progress.”
Council has undertaken root mapping along the seawall
to reduce the potential impact of the works on the
root zones of Norfolk Island Pine and Port Jackson
Fig trees adjacent to the seawall structure.
Galvanised screw piles will be installed at intervals
along the land side of the footpath to further support
the concrete slabs.
Ms Sheppard said this method of repair will have a
minimal impact on the surrounding environment.
