Wyong Shire Council welcomes plans for aged-care facility

Wyong Shire Council has welcomed plans to build the State's first aged-care facility for people with a disability at Hamlyn Terrace.

Deputy Mayor, Ron Stevens, joined the Minister for Disability Services, Kristina Keneally and Member for Wyong, David Harris at the site of the new centre on the corner of Louisiana Road and Pacific Highway for the announcement.

“This is another major win for Wyong Shire on top of several other recent major announcements including, the proposed Blue Tongue brewery at Warnervale and the exhibition of plans for the Warnervale Town Centre and Employment Zone,” Councillor Stevens said.

“The aged and people with a disability are some of the most important in the community.

“As people with a disability grow older they often start to develop age-related conditions.

“Wyong Shire Council welcomes the State Government’s announcement to build a 100 bed aged-care facility for people with a disability in Wyong which will provide many local jobs both during the construction phase and after completion.”

Mr Stevens said Council would also support the proposed nearby 20 bed community development.

“Wyong Shire Council supports many innovative local services for the aged and people with a disability including Wyong Aged Care facility, Central Coast Living Options and HopeTown School,” Mr Stevens said.

“The 20 bed community development for people with a disability who have the potential to live more independently will complement other local services and result in a better quality of life and more home-like environment for residents as well as providing a better environment for visiting families.”

Mr Stevens said the rezoning of the land for the 100 bed facility aged-care facility for people with a disability was with the Minister for Planning for gazettal.

“Once gazetted, Wyong Council staff will work with staff from the Department of Ageing, Disability and Home Care during the planning, approval and construction stages,” he said.

“When it is completed it will form part of an emerging hub of health care services including, Wyong Hospital, Kanwal Medical Centre and Kamira Farm Women’s Drug and Alcohol Rehab Centre.

“The State’s first aged-care facility for people with a disability at Hamlyn Terrace will provide vital services for some of the most important people in the community and Wyong Council looks forward to its completion,” Mr Stevens said.
