Australian swimmers celebrating Australia DayAustralia Day 2006

Australia Day is an important milestone that helps focus public attention on the achievements of the nation.

In Wyong Shire, January 26 will be particularly significant for those local residents who will officially become Australian citizens on the day.

Wyong Shire Council's Australia Day Awards are also a highlight of the celebration. Read how a prominent community volunteer has been named Citizen of the Year.

Thursday, January 26 - Wyong Race Club

8.30am Stalls, rides for children (free), Aussie bands, Aussie Breakfast, Wyong Square Dancers and Cloggers.
10am Formal celebrations, including official welcome, flag raising ceremony, Citizenship Ceremony by Wyong Mayor, Bob Graham, addresses by Australia Day Ambassador Diana Fisher and David Spinks of Wyong Chamber of Commerce, singing of national anthem, cutting of birthday cake, morning tea.
11.30am Aussie music, bush poetry, square dancing, clogging and other family entertainment.

4.15pm Official flag-raising, followed by speeches by Wyong Mayor, Bob Graham and Australia Day ambassador, Diana Fisher.

If you are attending an Australia Day function, don't forget about the Queens baton relay, which will pass through Wyong Shire the following day on its way to the Melbourne Commonwealth Games.
