| Community
support and services planning
Initiatives, strategies,
projects and studies in this section have been
developed and undertaken to find
out more about the local community and guide the
direction of planning human services in the Warnervale/Wadalba
Urban Release Area.
A Community Support and Human Services Strategy described
facilities and services that would be located
in the area and how agencies would work together.
Seven social outcomes were identified as important
to
the quality of life of local residents:
- A learning
community – where learning
is valued.
- A healthy community – enjoying an overall
sense of well-being.
- A prosperous community – with a resilient
economy and rewarding employment.
- A safe community – with access to a co-ordinated
support
system.
- A community at play – with a range of
recreational and cultural activities.
- A
connected community – connected to the local
neighbourhood, district
and region.
Community
Facilities Study
This study presents findings and recommendations
of a range of community facilities within the proposed
Warnervale Town Centre. The proposed facilities are
a key component of the town centre. Six community facilities
have been identified as being core to the proposed
Warnervale Town Centre. These
six community facilities are:
- Community Art & Cultural Facility.
- Community
Development and Learning Centre.
- Indoor Recreation & Aquatic
Centre.
- Integrated Child & Family Centre.
- North Wyong
Primary Care Network.
- Youth facilities (including
a services centre, training café and
retail enterprise)
Integrated Child and Family Centre
This is planned for the new Warnervale town centre.
Over the next two years, Wyong Shire Council, local
families, community groups and service providers will
carry out detailed planning of the centre.
The move
is a way of
getting groups and services
in the area to work together for the benefit
of families from Warnervale/Wadalba through to Gorokan/San
Remo/Blue Haven/Budgewoi and up to Lake Munmorah/Mannering
Park/ Gwandalan/ Summerland Point. Community groups often
play a key role in raising awareness of the needs of
the local area. The opinions and
ideas of local families are vital to ensure that
services understand what needs to happen in order
to make the area child focused and family friendly.
By working with local groups we also hope to benefit
the whole community by generating ideas for community
events and projects that help to raise the profile
of the area and the groups involved.
If individual families or
local groups have ideas about what types of activities
or services should be available
from the centre, please contact Linden Rhodes on
(02) 4350 5433 or linden.rhodes@wyong.nsw.gov.au..
If you have ideas about family and community activities
you
would
like to see happen in your local area, also feel
free to pass them on.
Social Capital and Development Project
This study began in 2000 to explore the
changes in the “fabric” (meaning the relationships,
connections and feelings about living in the local
community) of the existing and new community over time.
