Central Coast Council identified a need in the local market for place activation events that have potential to build community capacity and become sustainable events that drive economic and tourism objectives.
To meet the identified objectives, Harvest Festival Central Coast was developed to link with local farmers, businesses and events based in the mountains and valleys of the Central Coast including the areas of Calga, Somersby, Mangrove Mountain, Peats Ridge, Kulnura and Yarramalong.
The Festival celebrated the fantastic local produce and producers from around the region and focused on recognising our unique region, its people and culture.
The Festival program was designed to encourage attendees to follow an event trail encouraging visitation at multiple local farms and food hubs, family activities and event hubs. The Festival delivered a combination of Council staged events, community partnership events, open farms and commercial events to provide a diverse festival calendar.
Despite the unfavourable weather the inaugural Harvest Festival Central Coast delivered 23 event hubs over a two day period in June 2017 attracting 10,000 attendees.
Want to be involved?
An expression of interest for event participation is now open for eligible businesses, companies, community groups or organisations that propose an event or event concept that satisfies the requirements of the Festival.
The Festival is looking to support a range of unique events and activities that provide the community and visitors with a diverse Festival calendar.

Council is calling for EOI’s for event participation in the Festival. This could be as simple as open farm gate sales to major events, music events, art installations, or community events.
The Event Hubs are to be held in the Mountains and Valleys at one of the below Event Hub locations during the festival dates.
- Hub 1 – Calga
- Hub 2 – Somersby
- Hub 3 – Peats Ridge
- Hub 4 – Mangrove Mountain
- Hub 5 – Kulnura
- Hub 6 – Yarramalong
Types of Event Hubs that will be considered?
The event hub will need to generate significate media coverage and/or have marketing strategies that include mass media and have the ability to draw visitors from outside the Central Coast. Events are assessed by the committee on their potential to involve the local and larger communities at each event. Events must incorporate the land/local produce or farming by their location or theme.
Examples of how you might be involved are (but not limited to):
- Open farm gate sales
- Farm tours and talks
- Pick your own
- Indigenous cultural experiences/bush tucker tours
- Cinema under the stars
- Art events / installations
- Live music events
- Family fun day event
- Cooking demonstrations
- Stall holder at an Event Hub
- Long lunch with local produce
- Obstacle course faces / fun Runs
*Preference will be given to events that have the ability to attract attendees from outside the region and or promote local produce / producers.
Do you have a great idea, but unsure how to get it off the ground?
Council will be able to support and market the entire festival program and support the community with event, traffic and waste logistics.
Groups may also be eligible to apply for a Central Coast Council grant.
