Environmental Education

Primary Schools Environment Program 2018

The Central Coast Council’s Primary School Environment Program is designed for primary schools in the Central Coast region.

The program aims to foster a strong understanding of environmental issues and a commitment to positive environmental behaviour within our schools and communities.

Program themes

Each year a theme is chosen and a resource package is developed centred around one particular environmental issue.

This year’s theme Let’s get Drastic with Plastic is a subject that can be incorporated into multiple aspects of the curriculum and showcase in other environmental programs. We want to encourage students and the school to get involved in the topic with the aim of reducing the amount of plastics used, with a focus on single use plastics within the school environment and the wider impact plastics are having on the environment.

Students and schools are encouraged to understand facts and concepts about the environment and are challenged to undertake and maintain initiatives within their school and homes that will impact positively on this theme.

Past themes program include: climate change, waste education, biodiversity, stormwater management, catchment protection, recycling, reusing, water education and global warming.
