Designed and launched in 2004, the Little Green Steps program is a regional sustainability education program for early childhood services. The program is a partnership between Gosford City and Wyong Shire Councils and aims to:

- Educate children, in very basic terms about sustainability, with a focus on five main themes.
- Inform parents and carers about their local environment and sustainability, and how they can implement simple practices at home.
- Provide ongoing educational support to residents across the Central Coast.
The program consists of, professional development in-services for educators on specialised topics held bi-annually in local centres; available support for services through the two Council’s Education Teams; and a series of teacher resource kits developed around the five themes; biodiversity, energy, stormwater, waste and water.
